XV Gallery Abstract + Graphic Newness

It’s the third year anniversary of XVITALDESIGN’s premiere, and it has been an exploration when it comes to all the painting explorations. The past few months have been quite hectic balancing the time to get the revolving artwork concept constantly on a schedule! IT has been an adventure learning new techniques in application and texture for this XV Gallery drop. No matter the daily stressors, I am so proud to showcase some of the contenders to the canvas texture preparations and the new color palette mixes in this anniversary gallery drop! I do apologize in advance, this blog is quite lengthy, but it will give you an understanding to each new canvas drop.

Taking a look back at the original XV Gallery drop, these new canvas printed paintings take the XV mindset to a new level. For a little insight refresh, take a look back at our story on the XV TRIO + XV VUE Series.

Before the relocation of the XV Design Lab from Philadelphia, PA to Williamsburg, VA, I worked through the notions of bringing in more typography to XV. Initially starting with the iconic Love Always + PEACE OUT script, I wanted to take this idea further. In combination with some of the signature and iconic motifs, the XV BISOUS icon had a cheeky pairing with the “Fuck Off” script. From there, the XV BISOUS EFF OFF canvas was the first officially completed canvas by mid Summer 2021.

Once settled in Williamsburg, VA, the XV Design Lab began unpacking the tools to continue the revolving art concept. Literally, every wall has (and still is) going through constant changes and rotations when it comes to the inspired artwork for paint explorations. Since then, finding the art to balance the time to get some good contenders for the XV Gallery started! The paint explorations from this point was all about creating layers and bringing in new textures.

The next completed works of art were the XV Urban Venom + XV Lush Wilds. These paintings focused on layers and textures, bringing about new color palettes. XV Urban Venom shows an abstracted painting highlighting saturated colors, then overlaid with layered gouache drippings. Looking at adding more ideas of texture, I came across a tub of spackling from when we were unpacking items from the move. I took this moment to start playing with spreading layers of texture to create shadows and movement. After waiting for the initial dry time, then went about creating a lush color palette that was filled with midnight tones with saturated teals and greens for the XV Lush Wilds canvas.

Taking a break from the layering paint exploration, I took back to the idea of more graphic pieces with some details. Like I have mentioned before, I have an affinity to all things witchy and from there I wanted to play with new motifs. I started with taking current ideas and taking them further. I took inspiration from Psychic and Tarot Reading neon signs. I also wanted to take a play on both the XV Signature Sight and XV PEACE OUT motifs. Little back note, one of my previous job moments was working for a yoga studio. Now, I for sure can say I probably don’t have the adept skills and patience for this practice, but I do take understanding in symbols and meanings. One of the iconic motifs I came across was the hamsa. The hamsa is a palm-shaped amulet said to be a sign of protection against the evil eye. With this in mind, this was a perfect rendition to pair with the XV Signature Sight icon. The XV Sight Clairvoyance displays an open palm with an evil eye depicted in the palm of the hand, I wanted to replicate a faux neon canvas. Playing with colors and shadowing, I also wanted to represent the light and dark shades of the ying-yang symbol. Fun tid-bit, this canvas has a personal notation. The lines depicted are lines that depict my actual palm lines. Even the fingerprints mimic my own fingerprints.

Okay, that was a lot to download, I know. But before I get intense in describing the next collection of canvases, I also wanted to also bring in some familiar looks in an artwork reprisal. From the OG XV TRIO Series, I took my favorite canvas of the three and put a pride filter (XV TRIO Pride Chevron) and if you’ve followed XVITALDESIGNS (or my personal account) on social media, you’ll see little previews from earlier paint explorations that look on the filter-applied concepts. The XV Autumnal Aurora shows one part of the XV Aurora duo series (updates to come in 2022!) with a fall-sunburst filter.

Recap time, so head on over and explore our XV Gallery in our new graphic and abstract paint-printed canvases! Then head on back to our story to read more about our XV Gallery Triptych Series + XV Fuse Collective in the next blog post!
